Team Information‎ > ‎

Academy

The most important team in the club - the Academy, also known as St. James Gaels All Stars, train in Drimnagh Castle every Saturday morning at 10:30.

All Children from 5 to 8 years of age are welcome to attend where our qualified coaches will teach them the basics of Gaelic Football in a friendly and fun environment

Our start time each Saturday is 10.30 and our finish time is 11.45.

Please try and be on time every week.

If we are not going to be here (long week-ends, holidays or whatever) we will let you know the previous week. If you are unsure just give Eoin a ring. (0868286543)

We do not currently have access to an indoor area so we will be adversely affected by poor weather. Again, if you are unsure please ring me. (We do not fear drizzle, for example!!!)

Bring a Ball

Children should feel free to bring their own ball to training if they want to. Please make sure that their name is printed clearly on the ball.

We would recommend that younger children have a size three ball (or size four football for older children) available at home to practise with.

Practice Makes Perfect

The most important job for the grown ups is to encourage the young players to practice, practice and practice. The more practice put in during the week the greater will be the improvement in basic skills and ball control.

Practice should include the following:
  • Picking the ball up with the foot.
  • Punch\hand Pass
  • Hop and solo (Use both feet)
  • Kicking from the hand (Use both feet).
  • Catching the Ball.
Please encourage the children to put in some skills practice every day for at least 20 minutes or so.

If you want a demonstration of any these skills just ask any of the coaches and we will be happy to demonstrate them to you.
